About Carlyle Turns Wood
Our Craftsmanship
My lifelong interest in wood and woodworking has evolved into a passion for turning Wood. Turning wood is, for me, an exquisite combination of art and craftsmanship. I start the process on a latte using wood from fallen or dead trees on my property in Williamstown,Ontario.
Ash and Americain elm are abundant in this region but both species are besieged by invasive insects. I hope to raise awareness of how destructive thèse pests have been to our native trees and what we can do to stop their spread. I also work with maple, cherry, oak, poplar and birch.
My bowls and vases are turned with the goal of bringing out all of the naturel beauty and character that the wood has to offer. Recently I have begun incorparating coloured resin into my pieces not to overpower the wood but to compliment it.
